The Clinical Officers’ fraternity has seen success and consistent improvement in annual scientific conferences over the years. There has been notable improvement in the quality and number of abstracts submitted and presented, including poster presentations. We have also seen and appreciated the overwhelming support from various partners over the years. Continuous professional development for Clinical Officers remains our core mandate, and the Annual Scientific Conference is the culmination of all such activities every year.
Despite the challenges occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, KCOA remains committed to its key mandate. We have therefore planned our first HYBRID CONFERENCE to be held from 16th to 18th November 2022. The onsite conference will be held at Sai Rock Beach Hotel and Spa, Mombasa.
In order to ensure adherence to the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19, we will have a hybrid conference, with a few clinicians attending the live conference (onsite) and a vast majority attending various sessions through webinar broadcasts.
We target two types of audience:
Onsite audience: This group will attend the live conference. We have restricted this number to 500 participants. These include:
Remote audience: These participants will join various sessions in the program through a live webinar broadcast. We target over 1,000 participants over the conference period.
While it’s true that virtual events may wane in popularity, the event industry has changed forever. Technology is no longer a premium or a maybe, it’s an essential, need-to-have for current and future events.
The program will comprise of a few plenary sessions and a larger number of parallel sessions in order to cover as many topics as possible. We will run two concurrent sessions. The program will be shared with partners in due course.
We target to have 80% of the abstract presenters and keynote speakers assembled in the live conference. They will present to the onsite audience, and the same presentation will be broadcast to a webinar platform. The broadcast will involve several cameras and livestream equipment to ensure wide coverage of the presentations and the rest of the conference hall. This will ensure the feel of a ‘live environment’ for remote audience.
As described above, the broadcast model with be similar to a TV broadcast, but enhanced with interactivity for remote audience, including but not limited to, Q&A, chat, polls, surveys etc.
